Via di Campicuccioli 22 - 50060 PelagoLa Fornella è gestita da Cassandra e Giacomo Bartoloni Saint Omer che dopo anni di vita cittadina a Firenze e tante esperienze intorno al mondo hanno deciso di vivere con la natura. La Fornella è situata al centro della campagna Toscana, solamente a 18 km a sud di Firenze. Questarea della Toscana è stata descritta come terra di Santi, eremiti e monasteri e la Fornella fu costruita come posto tappa dei monaci lungo il difficile cammino che da Pontassieve sale verso il monastero di Vallombrosa. L'ordine dei Vallombrosani fu fondato nel 1033 da Giovanni Gualberto Visdomini che provò a convincere gli aristocratici a donare le loro ricchezze per una vita semplice e virtuosa. In contrasto con la sua origine lordine crebbe in prosperità e ricchezza e nel XVI e XVII secolo raggiunse un enorme potere economico. La Fornella venne costruita intorno al 1300 nella sua parte principale, successivamente subì ampliamenti e modifiche. Mountain bike possono essere noleggiate per la giornata alla Fornella. La piscina in mezzo agli ulivi, gode di una vista stupenda sulle vigne. Lezioni di cucina possono essere organizzate presso la vicina casa di una Signora Toscana, con cibi tipici e ingredienti genuini. Campi da tennis sono raggiungibili in 10 minuti. Il maneggio dista 20 minuti dalla Fornella. Un golf club è presente a 40 minuti. Circondata da 9 ettari di terra coltivata a olivi e viti, domina le valli che furono teatro di eventi storici straordinari e sorge ai piedi della faggeta più grande dEuropa. In epoca Napoleonica tutte le terre ed il Monastero di Vallombrosa furono confiscati dallo stato e dati in gestione ai notabili della zona. Il Monastero di Vallombrosa è oggi nuovamente abitata dai monaci ed è meta di visita di miglia di persone ogni anno. |

La Fornella is owned by Florentine born Giacomo Bartoloni Saint Omer and his American wife, Cassandra Schaffer, who has resided in Italy for over 10 years. La Fornella is located in Eastern Tuscany, just 18 kilometers to the southeast of the city of Florence. Eastern Tuscany has been described as a land of saints, hermits and monasteries and La Fornella was originally built as a living quarters for the farming monks of the Vallombrosa monastery. The Vallombrosa order was founded by Saint Giovanni Gualbeto Visdomini in 1038 who aimed to convince other aristocrats to also give up their riches and adopt a simpler life of greater virtue. Contrary to these origins the order grew both rich and powerful during the 16th and 17th centuries when the famous central abbey was built. La Fornella would have been built during the early middle ages, with the addition of its two central towers to mirror those of the fortress-like abbey during the Renaissance. Bicycles may be hired at La Fornella. There is a an 8 ½ x 4 x 1.4 meter raised swimming pool the overlooks the San Giovese vinyards and olive groves below. Cooking lessons may be arranged for at the adjacent villa of Montepescoli and are given by a local Italian Signora. Menus include typical regional foods and local, genuine ingredients. Horseback riding is within 20 minutes. Golf is within 40 minutes. Tennis facilities are within 10 minutes. Basic Italian lessons are arranged for upon request. La Fornella is surrounded by 25 acres of land, cultivated by olive groves and a small, San Giovese vinyard, which were once tended by the monks of the region. The monks' living quarters have been restored into 3 apartments which may be rented on a weekly basis. The region of Eastern Tuscany is appealing to those in search of art, architecture and culture, but also those who would like to relax in natural surroundings. The nearby abbey buildings at Vallombrosa are surrounded by such beautiful woodland that John Milton described them in his epic poem Paradise Lost (1667). The forest is the largest beachwood forest in Europe and there are numerous marked paths and picnic areas, in particular amongst the glorious, ages old forests within the vicinity of the monastery at Vallombrosa. |
