Relais Varnello is a farmhouse with arcades and an ancient wood-burning oven, situated in the gently rolling hills of Brisighella in the heart of Romagna, on an ancient Etruscan road a few Kms from Tuscany.It is on the panoramic provincial road between Brisighella (3 Km.) and Riolo Terme (7 km.) and easily reachable from the motorway. The varied landscape offers spectacular quasi-lunar geological phenomena in the Chalk Vein of Monte Rontana, the green Carnè Nature Reserve, luxuriant vineyards producing Sangiovese wine, and silent olive groves which produce the famous "Brisighello" oil. Varnello comes from an ancient Celtic word meaning water. In 1099 a defensive castle was built in the area , then in 1242 it became a Curia, then a Villa and Hospital. After the 16th century this district lost its strategic importance until to-day; nowadays great interest is shown in the uncontaminated rural beauty of the region. Am Rand vom Naturpark Carnè, bietet die karstige Landschaft einen herrlichen Blick auf den Gipsaufbau des Monte Rontana und die karachteristischen Furchen, inmitten von Weinreben und Olivenhainen, die Sangiovese-Wein und das berühmte Brisighello-Öl produzieren.
